On December 17, 2010, President Obama signed the
Tax Relief, Unemployment Insurance Reauthorization,
and Job Creation Act of 2010. This law extends the tax credits for energy efficiency into 2011, BUT at
lower levels. The levels revert back to those in effect in 2006 and 2007, which were 10% of the cost of the
improvement, up to $500, with a $200 max for windows, and several other set maximums.

Tax Credit
- 10% of cost (not including installation/labor costs), up to $200 for windows and $500 for doors.
Requirements
- Be
placed in service by December 31, 2011.
- Be an existing home and your principal residence.
New construction and rentals do not qualify.
- Meet the
ENERGY STAR criteria in your region.

On February 17, 2010, President Obama signed into law the
American Recovery and Reinvestment Tax Act of 2009.
This bill extends and modifies the tax credits for windows, doors, and skylights established in the Energy Policy Act
of 2005.

Tax Credit
- 30% of cost (not including installation/labor costs), up to $1,500.
Requirements
- Be
placed in service by December 31, 2010.
- Be an existing home and your principal residence.
New construction and rentals do not qualify.
- Have a
U-Factor and
SHGC less than or equal to 0.30. You can find the U-factor and SHGC on the National Fenestration Rating Council
(NFRC) label.
